Baesler: SNAP Money Halt Won’t Affect School Meals

The Department of Public Instruction has been inundated with questions about whether the pause in SNAP funds will affect students’ ability to access free and reduced-price meals at school. It will not. Students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals will get them for the remainder of the school year, Baesler said.

Kelly Armstrong today announced he has directed more than $1.5 million in state funds to support food assistance programs during the ongoing federal government shutdown, while also urging North Dakota residents to consider donating food or money to their local food pantries to help meet the needs of those losing federal food assistance.

A public event was held in Watford City, Community Strong: Remembering the 2024 October Wildfires and Those Who Stood Together. Among the impacted landowners, community leaders, and first responders gathered for the event was the widow of Johannes Nicolaas van Eeden, traveling from South Africa to visit the place of her late husband’s last days. Edgar Coppersmith and van Eeden both tragically lost their lives due to impacts from the wildfires.
